The boy falls back crying and pain and bleeding profusely through his genitalia which is missing. He then starts coitous, then in her terror and somewhat shame you hear a crunching sound. They disappear into a cave like place where he starts to force his self on her which she is not ready for at all. Later, her and her male friend start going to a beautiful secluded area where he begins to flirt with Dawn. She is making her promise to abstain from sexual intercourse in front of a group of other students and shows her pride in doing so by putting on the ring. Years past and you meet Dawn the young girl in the pool from earlier in high school. Nevertheless, the movie opens up with two kids in a pool and male and a female and all of the sudden the male screams in pain. She grew up next to a nuclear power plant which mutated her body in such a way that she can protect her innocence towards anyone. It is a dark comedy/horror story of a young girl with extra parts that simply can be scary to most men and possibly some women.ĭawn is the sweet high school girl next door. This 2007 movie made you feel a little bit of everything. i feel like it could've remained a pretty simple, straightforward narrative while at least sharing some sort of perspective or fleshing out the idea/characters a bit beyond the basic premise, rather than most of it being scenes where they just basically tell the audience "look!! she has teeth!! in her vagina!!"Īgain though, don't mean to disregard ur opinion/thoughts on it! just wanted to talk about my own feelings on it for a bit. This is one of the most terrifying movies for males with too much machismo to show respect to females. Though just to clarify a bit, my issue isn't that the story isn't complicated or elaborate, but rather that i feel like it doesn't really do much with the concept, like, i think it just kind of lacks creativity - like they thought of a really cool premise but they sorta left it at that. I mean yeah my opinion is obv influenced by what i personally find interesting in media, and i totally get that it might work for someone else! just wanted to add my two cents. I don't think every movie needs to have a big message to be good, but for one, if you're going to include this much SA in your film it should be with a purpose, and also, in this case at least, the plot isn't well constructed or interesting enough to make it a good film in spite of the lack of a concrete theme.Īgain, though, i'm just going off what i remember from when i last watched it. My general issue is that this movie doesn't really have anything to say beyond "rape bad" and "vagina with teeth". It could've been such a great, interesting movie - all the pieces are there to make something insightful and creative, for instance the celibacy thing could've worked if she eventually had a sexual awakening of sorts that wasn't sexual assault, or if it was a way for her to kind of 'justify' her repression. it's literally the plot - so are you going to do something interesting with it or is that just the whole thing? idk, pointless in a way? it felt like they just wanted to reiterate that she has teeth in her vagina without any underlying theme beyond that, which like, we know. I feel like the premise would've worked great as an exploration of female sexual repression/sexual self-discovery, but in the end the main character has little to no agency for most of the film - the SA scenes felt kind of. It's been a few years since I watched it, but from what I remember i thought it had a lot of wasted potential.
